Hello my peas,
welcome to the pod. if this is your first read. thanks for stopping by. do you find it difficult to go to sleep, relax and wind down? Then you are in the right place. I (Alejandra) often have a hard time falling asleep, or relaxing, mainly because I OVERTHINK. My brain does not know how to shut down. I worry so much, I begin to worry about worrying (LOL) does that sound like you. I hope the tips I offer help
meditate
Meditating is one of the most important ways to relax. Not only does it calm you down but helps you think clearly. You may be wondering how in the world can I meditate. Well the first step is to quiet your mind. I know sounds redundant since you can't relax in the first place. Imagine your favourite place, get away, or someone you love. breathe in and out, while holding your breathe. Your heart rate will slowly begin to fall, which will ultimately leave you feeling relaxed. Don't get it twisted, meditating is very hard, it requires a high level of focus; like the old saying goes, practice makes perfect.
2. READ READ READ
When I can't sleep at night, I usually read up on things on my phone (bad) put your phone away at least 1 hour before bed. This helps in relaxation and quieting your mind. Pick up a physical book. Not only do physcial books smell good but they are definite better for your eye sight.
3. EXERCISE
Exercise is one of the most helpful ways to relax not only your mind but your body. moving your body especially during COVID-19 is important for your mental health. DID YOU KNOW? when you workout your body releases endorphins. These are your feel good hormones. My favourite thing to do is workout. I may not have the best eating habits but I rarely miss a workout. Here is a bonus video of me pumping it out.
4. Cold shower
LET ME TELL YOU. did I say 15 minutes tops??? nah.. This will have you relaxed in less than 1 minute. You ever took a cold shower? TRY it, you will thank me later. not only will cold showers leave you feeling relaxed but there are other benefits such as increase your circulation. Wake you up, and give your skin a nice healthy glow.
5. Perspective
STOP OVERTHINKING. it is important to realize that everything passes. Both good and bad things pass away. I remind my self every time I feel down, or having multiple stressors that, "this too shall pass" Put what you are going through in perspective of your overall life and the life of others. asking your self questions like, do I really have a bad life or am I just having a bad day? will this matter to me in 5 years?
